Dragonfly

One of the oldest inhabitants of the earth dating back to over 250 million years, belong to the insect order known as Odonata. They are big hunting insects with four gauzy wings and a shimmering red, green or blue body. They are fast and agile fliers, and can even hover in the air in one spot like a jewelled  helicopter.
Starting out life as small nymphs under water, it grows to be approximately 7cm. long, with a wingspan of averaging 5-12cm. in width. Surprisingly dragonflies will spend only a very short part of their life span as actual dragonfly. They will live as nymphs for up to four years, shedding their skin up to 15 times. Yet, when they finally mature into adults or the dragonfly stage, they will survive only for a few months.
